SUNDAY-Missed Tour Lemonade

We were very excited about our evening walking tour retracing the murders of Jack the Ripper and some other spooky things. But the numbering system for the buildings on the street we were looking for didn't seem to be in an order as an American might expect. I sort of wondered if the buildings were ordered by the time they were originally built, like on some streets in Tokyo. By the time we got to the building we were supposed to be at, my cell phone, synced with local time, showed that we were just 3 minutes shy of the start time. There was no tour group in sight.

The clock through the window, inside the tour bureau we were to leave from, showed 11 after the hour. Jeri and I split up and ran in opposite directions to see if we could find the tour and catch up -- she towards Trafalgar, and me into St. James. No dice. They were long gone. It was clear to us, they'd used the clock at their place of business and started the tour at least 7 minutes early. Fuckers.

We walked back to a pedestrian area tucked behind Charing Cross station that was loaded with bars, bistros, and nightclubs. At a lovely Italian place, we sat down in the cool air of an autumn night in London. We ordered some ciders, some awesome Italian food, enjoyed a latin quintet that happened by to played for us click here to enjoy them, dessert and coffee, and enjoyed evening people watching as we lingered over dinner. It was pretty awesome, and I daresay, was probably just the perfect thing. :)

  1. Love it when those unplanned moments show up and steal the show.
